Record the symptom before covering the lens

A lamp that never comes on needs power and switch checks first

A dark lamp at night can be a dead bulb, an open switch, or an eye that never closes. Start with the lamp. If the fixture can light when the sensor is taken out of the path, the eye is the remaining suspect.

If it still stays dark, a new photocell will not help.
